The Somali Federal Government has provided details of an operation that resulted in the killing of an Al-Shabab leader in Lower Shabelle province. This was disclosed by the Minister of Defense of Somalia, Hon. Ahmed Ma’alin Fiqi, who announced the death of notorious Al-Shabab leader, Abdulahi Hassan Abdi Osoble, also known as Abdilahi Wadad. He stated that Wadad was killed in an operation conducted by NISA security forces, SNA, and international partners in the Kunyo Barow settlement. The Minister emphasized that Wadad had been a long-standing threat to the peace and stability of the Somali populace, as he was responsible for extorting money from local residents. He stated, “Starting in 2017, Wadad was in charge of extorting money from business people in the Banadir region and committing atrocities against them. As a result, some of them were forced to flee the country. He was also responsible for the demolition of business stalls by placing explosive devices.” The Minister also revealed that Al-Shabab had suffered a heavy defeat in El Dher, Wargaadhi, Jabad Godane, and Kudhaa settlements, which fall under the jurisdiction of Galguduud, Middle Shabelle, and Lower Jubba regions.
