The Minister of defense of the Somali Federal Gov’t, Ahmed Ma’alin Fiqi yesterday held a meeting with Egyptian ambassador to Mogadishu, Mohamed Al-Said Ahmed Al-Baz, who was flanked by officers of Egyptian army.
The meeting focused on strengthening the military cooperation between the two countries. The two sides discussed the role that Egypt is playing in the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), and ways to expedite the fight against Al-shabab.
The defense minister expressed thanks to the Egyptian gov’t for the support it provides to Somalia. He stated the importance of the military ties which plays a crucial role when it comes to the regional stability.
The Egyptian Ambassador and other army officers told that they are committed to work with Somalia when it comes to the fight against Al-Shabab. The meeting comes at a time when Egypt is part of the countries that contribute troops to the stabilization in Somalia.
