Senior al-Shabab commander surrenders to Somali forces

A senior member of al-shabab militant group on Saturday surrended to the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), in Luuq district of Gedo region. NISA forces said that Mr. Abukar Adam Buule handed himself to the government. “The al-shabab member contacted our forces and he was going to give himself up and he was ready to the leave the militant group and the forces cooperated with him.”  the commander said. He added that the gov’t is comitted to welcoming those who are quitting al-shabab militants. Mr. Abukar told the local media that he joined the militant group in 2015. He took training in Wargaduudo village. He also participated in number of skirmishes. He added that he was stationed in El Adde for three years and was responsible for security. He further called on al-shabab fighters to leave the group and hand over to the government forces. Somali forces are on major operations in southern regions to flush the militants out of their strongholds in those regions
