Puntland Authrority Issues Strict Measures to combat trafficking and illegal immigration

Puntland authority on Monday issued strict measures which are aimed to prevent human trafficking and illegal immigration which take place in airports in Puntland.

A press statement was issued after immigration officers and security agencies held a meeting in which they said that the increase of illegal immigration poses a real risk to Somali youth.

The measures issued from the meeting indicated that the agencies in Puntland need to cooperate when it comes to the prevention of illegal immigration.

It is agreed upon to take actions on human traffickers and groups that are involved in trafficking.

Airline companies and travel agencies were informed to check and ensure the authenticity of passengers travel documents who are departing from the airports.

Puntland authority confirmed that everyone who is caught red handed while trafficking humans or using fake travel documents will face punishments which are in line with laws in Puntland.

Garowe airport has become a center where Somali youth are illegally sent to overseas.

Many youth hailing from Puntland remain missing in the coasts between Algeria and Spain which has recently become a new center for many illegal migrants.

These are the measures that Puntland immigration officers and security agencies issued and need to be enforced.

 

 

 

  1. To prevent illegal immigration that take place within airports in Puntland.
  2. To stop the increase of human trafficking which is a problematic to the Somali youth.
  3. To work together when it comes to all gov’t agencies which are involved in the prevention of trafficking.
  4. To punish human traffickers and groups that are involved in the trafficking.
  5. Airline companies and travel agencies must check and ensure the authenticity of travel documents belonging to passengers.
