Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has ordered the health minister to intensify efforts to share with African countries Egyptian expertise in the health sector, Egyptian presidency spokesman Bassam Rady said in a statement on Sunday.

The step aims to help achieve sustainable development goals in Africa, Rady said.

In a meeting with the president, Health Minister Hala Zayed reviewed Egypt’s initiative to treat 1 million Africans with Hepatitis C, including in Sudan, Chad, Somalia, Ethiopia, and Eritrea.

Planned visits include Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, where Egypt will assess the health sector and the needs of those countries in terms of screening for the virus and providing medication and training for local medical workforces.
