On Saturday, a clash between two soldiers from Somaliland’s security forces in Erigavo, the regional capital of Sanaag, resulted in one soldier being killed and several others wounded. The incident occurred during a ceremony held in preparation for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations on May 18. According to Sanaag’s regional authorities, the altercation began between the two soldiers at a location where security forces were present. The ceremony had concluded peacefully, but later on, the two soldiers got into a fight, leading to the death of one soldier and injuries to others. The regional authorities also stated that the security forces in Erigavo are currently stationed in their bases and that the situation is under control. The regional governor assured that the town’s security is at 100% and that there is no lack of security, as the security forces are currently based in their camps. However, the official reasons for the clash have not been disclosed by the regional authorities, and the Somaliland government has not provided any details about the incident in Erigavo.
