Soldiers of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) in collaboration with local defense forces conducted a planned operations in settlements in Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle provinces. They conducted the operations particularly in Mabaah and Takawal settlements which lie in the border between Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle provinces.
They said that heavy casualties were inflicted on the militant group of Al-Shabab. Al-Shabab members were reported to be hiding in these areas. NISA officers who led the operation told the state media that they killed scores of Al-Shabab fighters during the operation.
They also dismantled several positions that Al-Shabab fighters were stationed. The officers did not give details of the number of Al-Shabab fighters killed in the operation.
The operation comes at a time when Al-Shabab fighters were conducting intensified troop movements in settlements that lie in the border between Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle provinces.
