Reports from the Galgudud region indicate that on Monday, troops from Galmudug’s Presidential Guards closed a crucial highway connecting Dhuusamareeb, the administrative seat, and El-La Helay towns. This action was reportedly taken due to the soldiers’ grievances over unpaid salaries for the past two months. The troops, known as Galeyr, had recently completed a military training and were preparing to participate in anti-Al-Shabab operations in the eastern parts of Galguduud province. Witnesses reported that the closure of the highway disrupted the movement of vehicles and people, as this road is important for connecting the two towns. Galmudug regional officials have since met with the mutinous troops and promised to address their complaints and resolve the issue of unpaid salaries. As a result, the troops have agreed to reopen the road. However, there has been no official statement released by Galmudug authorities regarding the soldiers’ grievances and the measures taken to address them.
