Reports confirm that at least 10 mortars were fired which hit parts of Afgoye district according to reports.
Some of the mortars hit the different villages of Afgoye district while others landed at a military barracks.
The mortar attack inflicted heavy casualties including deaths and injuries to civilians and soldiers.
One of those killed in the mortar attack is an army officer by the name of Hussein Haji Mohamed who is well known as Aw-Koombe.
Banadir Police Chief Ma’alin Mahdi and other officers were in Afgoye during the mortar attack.
Somali security agencies have not so far issued a statement regarding the mortar attack.
