Last night, the local defense forces known as Ma’awisley carried out a targeted operation against Al-Shabab members in the Mudug region of Central Somalia. The operation specifically took place in the Dabagalo settlement and resulted in heavy casualties for Al-Shabab, according to the administrative secretary of Harardhere district in Mudug province. A video recorded by Ma’awisley members during the raid showcased the weapons they seized from Al-Shabab, including AK-47s. The administrative secretary stated, “The operation was executed as planned by the local defense forces after the night prayer in Dabagalo settlement. Weapons were confiscated during the operation.” He also confirmed the successful elimination of Al-Shabab leader Geele and six of his security guards. However, there has been no official statement from Al-Shabab regarding the operation’s success. The Somali National Army (SNA) is currently conducting operations in Central Somalia in collaboration with Ma’awisley and receiving support from international partners, including airstrikes.
