Kenya & Somalia agree to cooperate on the protection of the environment

Kenya and Somalia expressed their commitment to cooperate on the protection of the environment. The Minister of environment of Kenya, Hon. Adan Barre Du’ale met and held high level discussions with his Somalian counterpart, Mr. Bashir Mohamed Jama.

The two ministers met in Nairobi, Kenya’s capital. During the meeting, the two sides agreed to enhance the working cooperation between the two ministries, consolidate the bilateral ties between the two countries, and the protection of the environment. The two sides reached a common understanding when it comes to the protection and prevention of deforestation which is crucial to both countries.

They also acknowledged that the climate change impacted the communities of the two countries. Somalia and Kenya are due to sign an (MOU), on the development of the environment. The two sides are expected to name technical committees who will be responsible to expedite the implementation of environment accord. The two sides pledged to support the ongoing efforts which are aimed at saving the natural resources to ensure lasting future. Kenya and Somalia have good diplomatic relations in the areas of security, trade and the movement of the two communities.
