Kenya has increased security in border settlements with Somalia by deploying additional troops to prevent attacks by Al-Shabab on military bases near the border, according to reports. Kenyan security officers have announced that all security forces are on high alert. They have also intensified search and check operations on vehicles crossing the border to ensure security and remain vigilant against Al-Shabab’s threats. This decision was made after the Kenyan President held a security meeting with military, intelligence, and police officers, instructing them to tighten security and deter Al-Shabab’s raids. The main objective of this heightened security is to prevent attacks on major roads that are crucial for providing logistics to the Kenyan Defense Forces stationed in Somalia. The second goal is to prevent an increase in insecurity within Kenya if Al-Shabab’s attacks escalate. The situation is tense as locals fear fighting may break out between the two sides. Al-Shabab has recently launched an assault on Kudhaa island, located on the border between Kenya and Somalia, resulting in heavy damage for the group.
