Reports from Bashaqle settlement in Middle Shabelle province state that fierce inter-clan clashes occurred on Wednesday between two brotherly clans. The clashes were a result of a dispute over the appointment of the Commissioner, which was recently made by the Warsheikh District Commissioner. According to reports, five people were killed in the clashes, including Muuse Haadoole, the brother of MP Osman Haadoole. One soldier from the attacked clan was injured. The fighting was sparked by an ongoing dispute over the appointment of the Bashaqle settlement Commissioner. Sources say that Muuse Haadoole, a member of the Somali Military, and his soldiers went to Xagaay-deg settlement, where Mr. Hassan Ahmed Haji Marshale, a recently appointed member of the Warsheikh authority, was stationed. Muuse Haadoole’s main objective was to detain Marshale, but armed clashes broke out between the two sides. During the fighting, Muuse Haadoole and four of his soldiers were killed. Troops intervened and separated the armed clans, and the fighting stopped. However, there is still tension in Xagaay-deg, and there are fears that the fighting may resume.
