The security minister of Hirshabelle regional state, Mr. Mohamed Abdirahman Khaire, has announced that new troops from the Somali Federal Government have been deployed to Jawhar in order to play a significant role in maintaining security and stability in the region. The minister emphasized that this deployment is a result of joint efforts between the Somali Federal Government and Hirshabelle regional state, highlighting the political understanding between the two sides in promoting peace and implementing government plans. He stated, “The rumors circulating on social media are baseless. The troops deployed to Jawhar are there to carry out operations aimed at ensuring security and eradicating terrorist groups.” The minister’s statement was in response to videos circulating on social media depicting units of the specially trained counterterrorism force, Gorgor, on their way to Middle Shabelle region. The objective behind the troops’ deployment has not been confirmed. There are also unconfirmed reports that three planes airlifted troops to Jawhar yesterday, further strengthening the ongoing military deployment. While the Somali Federal Government has not officially addressed the troops’ deployment to Jawhar, there are reports that it is planning to hold combined elections in regional states, including Hirshabelle, Galmudug, and South West States. As a precaution, additional troops have been sent to maintain security at polling stations.
