The government of Somaliland is implementing a new directive which is aimed at removing mobile towers from residential areas in Hargeisa, Somaliland capital.

This was disclosed by the telecommunication minister, Dr. Abdiweli Abdilahi Sufi, who held a brief meeting with parliamentary committee on economic affairs.

The ministry has disclosed that more than 220 mobile towers are currently installed in the capital.

Dr. Abdiweli has said that the recent move by the ministry in which it revoked all telecom licenses was aimed at reforming and upgrading the process of granting licenses to telecom firms.

The reason for taking this important step was also mean to review telecom firms operational licenses which acquired their licenses 20 years back.

The ministry will soon direct Somaliland Telecommunication firms to remove all existing mobile or telecommunication towers from the potentially high-risk areas with substantial population density in the capital.
