Gedo regional police boss, Colonel Adan Dhafoorey, has scathingly spoken of the security situation in the Gedo region, sending threats to Jubaland troops stationed in the border areas with Ethiopia and Kenya.

He accused the opposing groups against the Somali federal government of repressing the rights of local communities. The regional police boss reiterated that the Somali government troops will remain on high alert by not accepting that a bullet will be fired from the Ethiopian and Kenyan sides. He said, “If they fire any bullet, we will respond. We will go wherever they hide.”

He reportedly said that clear instructions had been given to the troops to immediately respond to attacks, stating that the troops would not remain in their previous areas, citing that the new operations would be launched. The statement from the regional police boss indicates the possibility of armed clashes to take place in Gedo, where there is political tension between the Somali federal government and Jubaland authority.

He called on soldiers who are on leave to immediately return to their duties, urging them to abide by the orders and duties that are given to them. He said, “We need to make a full preparation, and everyone must remain in their defense positions.” The statement from the regional police boss comes when the Somali federal government is planning to hold one-man, one-vote elections in the Gedo region, as reports further indicate that it is desirous to establish a new Jubaland there.
