Galmudug’s Deputy President, Mr. Ali Dahir Iid, has announced that Galmudug is prepared to play a crucial role in resolving the political tensions between the Federal Government and Southwest State authority. He has stated that Galmudug is offering a venue for the warring sides to come to the negotiation table and reach a common understanding. He has emphasized that the political conflicts pose a threat to the development and stability of the country. Mr. Iid has stated, “As Galmudug, we are ready to resolve the rift between Mogadishu and Baidoa.” He has also stressed the importance of protecting unity and peace in Somalia, and has called on religious leaders, scholars, traditional elders, and politicians to play an active role in restraining the situation and bringing the warring sides to the negotiation table. He has warned that these conflicts have the potential to destroy Somalia’s statehood and undermine peace and development. Mr. Iid has welcomed the call made by Somali President, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, for peace and dialogue, and has urged Southwest State President, Mr. Laftagaren, to return to the talks. He has emphasized that pressure alone will not yield a solution, and that it is necessary to discuss the areas of disagreement between the two sides. He has stated, “I believe that coming to the negotiation table and discussing the issues at hand is the only path to reach a political settlement.” He has also emphasized that it is the responsibility of Somalis to protect their state, unity, and peace, as there will not be a foreign country holding a reconciliation conference for them.
