Former Somali President Holds a meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Mogadishu

The former Somali President, Shariif Sheikh Ahmed held a high level meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Mogadishu, Richard Riley.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed issues concerning the political and security issues in Somalia.

They also discussed the need to develop the state-building in Somalia.

Former Somali President, Sheikh Shariif expressed deep thanks and appreciations to the constant U.S. support to the Somali Federal Gov’t in the areas of security, the fight against extremist groups and the humanitarian aid.

He said: “We held a meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Mogadishu, Richard Riley. We focused on our meeting the historic ties between the two countries. We discussed the general situation particularly the security, politics and the importance to develop the process of state-building in which political stability will be the foundation basis.”

The meeting was part which is aimed to strengthen the unity of Somali leaders before the holding of the important elections in 2026.

The U.S. Gov’t will step up its support it provides to the democratization process in Somalia and the rebuilding of robust Somali gov’t institutions while there are political constraints.
