The former Hirshabelle President and the current Deputy Executive Secretary of Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Hon. Mohamed Abdi Ware on Tuesday has strongly spoken out the current situation in regard to the ongoing war with Al-Shabab. He scathingly accused the Somali Federal Gov’t and regional authorities that they are dragging their feet when it comes to the war with the extremist groups.
He said that the national war that was engaged with the militant group of Al-Shabab; only one clan is fighting with them. He posted a statement on his Twitter account and expressed that he is deeply disappointed with the ongoing war with Al-Shabab. He said that the militant group of Al-Shabab have the chance to remobilize while the Somali Federal Gov’t is preoccupied with political matters.
He said: “I said three years ago that we defeated Al-Shabab in regard to the war. Today the answer is visible.” He pointed a finger on Moqokori district in Hiiraan region and said that it is one of rare regions where the real war with Al-Shabab is ongoing. He pointed out that the militant group of Al-Shabab emanate from remote regions like Jubaland and Southwest in order to reinforce their fighters in Moqokori district which demonstrates how the militant group of Al-Shabab perceives the importance of the war there.
He said: “It does not seem that there is a real war with Al-shabab that is going on the rest of the country. It seems that the rest of the people have turned a blind eye on the adversity of the local residents in Hiiraan province. The former Hirshabelle President said that it seems that the war with Al-Shabab is not a top priority for the Somali Federal Gov’t and int’l partners that have security cooperation with Somalia.
He urged to stop in what he termed “obsession with politics” which is nonsense. He said that this is an obstacle to the war with Al-Shabab. He said: “I still believe that we can defeat Al-Shabab; however, that needs to prevent the political row that is being created and those that are being exaggerated.
Finally, he said that there is a need to get national and unified plan between government agencies and the populace in order to prevent threats from the militant group of Al-Shabab.
