Reports from Middle Shabelle Province say on Tuesday that heavy fighting occurred in the outskirts of Adan Yabaal district in the province. The Somali National Army (SNA) and the local defense forces continue to launch anti-Al-Shabab offensive in the outskirts of the district for the third day running while they engaged armed clashes with the militant group of Al-shabab.
Reports indicate that Al-shabab fighters are trying to resist the attack from the Somali National Army (SNA) backed by the local defense forces in order not to be driven out from the district. Reports further reveal that the fighting in the outskirts in Adan Yabaal, there is an ambush whereby Al-shabab and the local defense forces are carrying out against each other in the border between the two provinces.
Local residents say that Al-shabab fighters are launching attacks on settlements that lie in the border particularly the outskirts of El-Hareeri settlement while using the road that goes through the Haud area. The local defense forces known as Ma’awisley are stationed in the border areas of these two provinces are conducting ambush attacks against the militant group of Al-shabab.
They have become Al-Shabab’s nightmare as they prevent Al-Shabab to expand its control in the province and that they cannot cross the border between Adan Yabaal and Moqokori districts. The Somali National Army (SNA) and the local defense forces on Sunday attacked on Adan Yabaal district after Al-Shabab failed to capture the military positions of the allied troops that are located in the outskirts of El-Hareeri which is under Moqokori district in Hiiraan region.
Al-Shabab fighters that attacked El-Hareeri, and they taught that they could easily capture the settlement in order to ease the pressure from Al-Shabab fighters who are under siege in Yasooman settlement which is under Buuloburde town in the East of the province. The fighting which occurred since Saturday caused casualties from the two sides although there are no official reports confirming the number of casualties that were inflicted on both sides.
