The European Union (EU) ambassador to Somalia, Francesco Di Mauro, informed President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud that the EU is donating 138 million Euros to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) and ongoing efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in the country. During their meeting, Di Mauro shared that the EU is donating 75 million Euros to AUSSOM operations in Somalia and an additional 63 million Euros to support those affected by the dire drought. These funds will be channeled through the European Union’s Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operation (EU OCHA). Di Mauro emphasized the need to share the burden of international defense and humanitarian efforts in Somalia to address the imbalance in support. The EU is a major donor to the Somali Federal Government, providing support for security and humanitarian issues, which are closely intertwined and directly impact the lives of the Somali people. The security and humanitarian situation in Somalia are top priorities, particularly in regards to stability and recovery.
