HARGEISA—Commission of promotion of virtue and prevention of vice in Somaliland elected new chairperson yesterday. The members convened the commission’s 3rd congress in Hargeisa, Somaliland capital.
The meeting saw the attendance of the (CPVPV) of its delegates from across Somaliland which lasted for two days. The newly elected chairman is due to remain in office for two years. The members chose deputy chairman, secretary, and the general council members. The CPVPV held a long heated debate on the most controversial legislation in Somaliland- the rape law. They reached a conclusion that it is against the Islamic tenets. Finally, the 22 delegates elected will be the CPVPV representatives across Somaliland provinces. The commission sent a congratulatory message to the Head of State for the obstruction of Rape Law.
