Al-shabab militants lifted blockade imposed on Southwest state   particularly parts of Baay and Bakool regions.

The al-Qaedia-linked terrorist group of Al-Shabab imposed the blockade after Somali gov’t liberated towns and settlements which under the control of the militant group.

The militant group warned the traders to bring their products to these areas.

The blocakade impacted on communities living in Hudur, Waajid, Qansaxdheere, Diinsoor and surrounding settlements.

Reports say that the cost of living in these areas have skyrocketed.

Al-Shabab militants burned trucks carrying food which were heading to these areas.

According to reports, senior Al-Shabab leaders and committee hailing from Bay and Bakool regions held talks in Tiyeeglow, Buula Fulaay and Bush Madiina settlements.

Finally, the two sides agreed to lift the blockade on trade and movement of vehicles in the towns and settlements in these regions.

Local residents report that the vehicles are operational in the towns and roads are open and safe.

The residents further said further said that the movement of traffic in the roads are smooth.

They said that vehicles are travelling safely even areas under the control of AL-Shabab militants and no one is disrupting the traffic.

Lifting the blockade has brought to an end the restriction that Al-Shabab militants imposed vehicles that transport goods not to travel to areas under the government control in Baay and Bakool regions.

Communities hailing from Baay and Bakool regions travel by plane due to insecurity on the roads if they travel on land.

It is not yet clear what has prompted Al-Shabab to lift the blockade which they imposed to these regions ten years ago.

The blockade came after Al-Shabab lost control of large swathes of land in Bakool and Baay regions which fell under the government control.
