The Somali National Army (SNA) in conjunction with Jubaland defense forces and the int’l partners carried out a planned operation in settlements in Lower Jubba region.
The airstrikes exactly took place in Maqooqaha settlement which lies 10 km from a military base manned by Jubaland troops that locates in Buulo Haji settlement which lies 90 km from Northwest of Kismayo, the administrative seat of Jubaland administration.
A statement issued by the Somali Federal Gov’t said that the airstrikes were carried out and foiled attacks that the militant group of Al-Shabab were planning to conduct in Maqooqaha settlement and the outskirts of Halimo Addey village in Lower Jubba region where the militant group of Al-Shabab were regrouping.
It is reported that at least 25 Al-Shabab fighters including five senior leaders were killed.
Four vehicles belonging to Al-Shabab militants in which they conduct attacks on military bases and against the Somali populace were dismantled.
Finally, Lower Jubba region is among areas where the militant group of Al-Shabab are strongly based.
