The Ministry of Information of Somali Federal Gov’t on Sunday issued a press statement regarding the explosion that occurred the gate of an army recruitment center in Damaanyo military barracks that locates in Hodan district in Mogadishu.
The statement from the ministry has confirmed that a suicide bomber wearing an explosives vest has blown himself up. The statement said that the security forces have prevented the explosion to cause heavy casualties.
The explosion occurred at around 9:20 am while the youngsters were staying outside Damaanyo military barrack who wanted to be recruited as members of armed forces.
Reports say that 20 people were killed while 15 others were wounded in the blast.
15 of those killed were among the youngsters while 5 others were civilians who were walking in the area when the blast went off.
The press statement from the ministry of information went on to say that security agencies are conducting the investigations and will confirm officially the exact casualties caused by the explosion.
The ministry of information calls on the public that they are awaiting the official information from the security agencies.
The statement added that the security forces prevented the suicide bomber to reach his goal which was to inflict heavy casualties upon the public.
