The Director of Somalia’s Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), Mr. Mahad Mohamed Salaad, recently held high-level meetings with heads of U.S. intelligence agencies, including the CIA and FBI, in Washington. The purpose of the meeting was to strengthen intelligence efforts, combat terrorist groups, and enhance the historic bilateral ties between Somalia and the U.S. During the meeting, NISA’s director highlighted the efforts of Somalia’s Federal Government in maintaining security and eliminating Al-Shabab and ISIS. He also emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two sides. Additionally, Mr. Salaad visited a U.S. military installation, Fort Bragg, in North Carolina, where he met with Colonel Benander, a senior advisor on U.S. Special Army. It is reported that Colonel Benander previously served in Somalia, and the two sides held further in-depth discussions on the security situation in the country and ways to intensify ongoing operations. Mr. Salaad expressed his gratitude to the U.S. government for its consistent support, particularly in the areas of security, training for Somalia’s national army, and the fight against terrorism. This cooperation has led to major achievements, including recent strikes that targeted senior Al-Shabab leaders and significantly degraded their operational capabilities.
