MOGADISHU–The Army Chief of Somalia’s National Army (SNA), General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamoud, chaired a meeting on Thursday at the Military Command in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia. The meeting was attended by leading operations officers of the Somali Military to exchange views and receive briefings. According to a statement issued by the SNA, General Mohamoud urged the officers to intensify operations aimed at liberating areas under the control of Al Shabab. He also emphasized the importance of working towards the realization and implementation of plans that are a top priority for the SNA. This was the first meeting presided over by the new Army Chief since his appointment on January 29, 2026. On Wednesday, the new Army Chief assumed command from his predecessor, General Odawaa Yusuf Raage. The change in leadership of the Somali Military Command comes at a crucial time as the country prepares to mobilize its army for offensives in Al-Shabab’s strongholds in South and Central Somalia.
