Taiwan sends medical aid to Somaliland to fight the coronavirus

Somaliland’s capacity to fight the coronavirus has been boosted today after receiving new equipment, medical kits and aid from the government of Taiwan.

The donation was channeled through Somaliland’s ministry of foreign affairs and int’l cooperation led by minister Yasin Mohamud Faraton.

The equipment donated include two machines which will be used for testing as well as special cameras with the ability to check people’s temperatures automatically.

The minister for foreign affairs of SL Yasin Mohamud Faraton said that the equipment will help Somaliland in the fight against the deadly coronavirus which has become a global pandemic.

Faraton said: “We have received this aid from the government of Taiwan. This donation consists of gadgets, equipment that will be used in testing for the coronavirus infections. We have accepted other vital equipment including masks as well as special cameras that will automatically test the temperature’s of our people. We are expecting in the coming days to receive more aid from Taiwan. Indeed, this generous donation from Taiwan will be of great help in the fight against the deadly virus.”

The minister of health development, Omar Abdilahi thanked the Taiwanese government for its generous support, a country that shares the same status with Somaliland as far as the int’l recognition is concerned.

Minster Omar also added that the aid will be helpful to all healthcare workers across Somaliland.

Omar said: “The ministry, and the TaskForce and Covid-19 prevention will ensure this donation will be utilized and used to better the lives of SL people. We will distribute the equipment on equal basis. The aid will enhance our capability to combat against the deadly coronavirus . I would like to advise the people of Somaliland to be worried of this deadly disease. It has not gone yet. We should exercise maximum precautions.”

The government of Somaliland has previously received aid from Somaliland community in China and other countries.

Patrons and business persons also supported the government in the fight against the virus.

Recently Taiwan and Somaliland which are two unrecognized countries were commended for their performance in the fight against the pandemic often while being denied information and resources made available to almost every other country.
