Somaliland’s Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Hon. Abdillahi Hassan Aden, today welcomed a high-level delegation from Ethiopia at Egal International Airport in Hargeisa, marking a significant step in deepening bilateral trade and investment relations between the two neighbors.
The 16-member delegation, led by Dr. Kenenisa Lemi Debela, Secretary General of the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations (ECCSA), includes chairpersons of various regional chambers of commerce, prominent business leaders, and officials from different parts of Ethiopia.
The welcoming ceremony was attended by senior Somaliland officials, including Mohamed Hassan Salebaan, Director General of the Ministry of Finance; Jamaal Aydid, Chairman of the Somaliland Chamber of Commerce; Ethiopian Ambassador to Somaliland Hon. Teshom Shunde Hamito; representatives from DP World; and other ministry officials.
A separate contingent from Ethiopia’s Somali Regional State, led by deputy ministers from the offices of Trade and Transport, and Investment and Diaspora Affairs, arrived by road and was received in Tog Wajale by Somaliland’s State Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Hon. Ismail Mawliid Abdillahi.
In his remarks at the airport VIP lounge, Minister Abdillahi Hassan Aden highlighted Somaliland’s commitment to expanding trade, investment, and economic cooperation with Ethiopia. He described the visit as a key opportunity to build stronger regional economic linkages.
Ahmed Wali Hassan, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce for Ethiopia’s Somali Regional State, expressed gratitude for the warm reception and emphasized the mutual benefits of enhanced collaboration.
During their visit to Somaliland, the delegation will tour critical infrastructure sites, including the Port of Berbera, the Berbera Economic Free Zone, and other strategic locations. Discussions are expected to focus on boosting trade volumes, attracting investment, and facilitating cross-border business connectivity in the Horn of Africa region.
The visit underscores the growing economic partnership between Somaliland and Ethiopia, with both sides expressing optimism for future joint initiatives.
