Somaliland: UN Delegation meets with politicians hailing from Sool region so as to end Tuke Raq hostilities

Somaliland politicians hailing from Sool region met and held discussions on Sunday in Hargeisa  with a delegation headed by UN deputy Special envoy to Somaliland and Somalia.

The House of National Assembly Speaker, Hon. Bashe Mohamed Farah and Minister in charge of Water affairs, Hon. Sulieman Yusuf Ali Koore attended the discussions with UN delegates on a mission to end the hostilities between Somaliland and Puntland over the control of Tuke Raq. “UN delegation coming to discuss conflict resolution in Tuke Raq is based on four principles” Said a member of the delegation.

  1. Cessation of hostilities
  2. Humanitarian access to the displaced persons.
  3. commitment of the dialogue
  4. Release of Prisoners of War (POW) on both sides.

UN Special envoy to Somalia, Micheal Keating was in Garowe just a couple of days ago to convince Puntland leader to accept the ongoing efforts to end the animosity be peaceful means.

The UN delegation in Hargeisa will hold talks with all stakeholders in Somaliland including the president, Muse Bihi and other govt officials.

UN and IGAD are tasked to end the Sool, Sanaag and Ayn regions dispute between Somaliland and Puntland which their forces skirmished on several occasions.
