Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi will depart on Saturday for his first official state visit to the United States since his election in 2017, where he is due to meet American government officials on a number of bilateral issues, Hargeisa-based MM TV reported on Thursday.
Bihi is due to deliver a speech at Heritage Foundation on March 14 to address “the great potential that exists in stronger ties between the US and Somaliland”, the think tank said this week.
Ministers of Foreign Affairs Eise Keyd and Environment Shukri Bandare have already gone to Washington to pave for the way for the president’s visit. Ministers of Trade, Information and Interior, among other officials and business people will accompany him in his trip.
Top business tycoons including the likes of Dahabshiil owner, Telesom Chairperson and Somcable tycoons are also expected to accompany the president to the trip to the US.
