On Friday, the Ministry of Defense of the Somali Federal Government issued a press release confirming that the Somali National Army (SNA), in conjunction with US Africa Command (AFRICOM), conducted an operation in the Lower Jubba region. According to the defense ministry, the operation targeted an explosive-manufacturing factory belonging to the militant group Al-Shabab. The press statement also stated that 18 members of Al-Shabab were killed in the operation. The operation specifically took place in the Sakow district of Lower Jubba region. The individuals killed in the operation were among engineers responsible for making explosive devices. The defense ministry and Somalia’s Military Command are committed to intensifying operations against terrorist groups and strengthening ongoing efforts to maintain security.
