The Speaker of the Lower House of Somali Federal Parliament, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur alias Madobe on Wednesday has strongly spoken of the failure of holding the parliament session due to a lack of quorum.

120 MP’s attended today’s session but the session could be held if 139 MP’s were present.

He urged the MP’s that were absent from the sessions to diligently execute their constitutional duties and show up the parliamentary sessions so that the House could reach decisions on the important issues before the parliament.

He said: “It is unfortunate that many times the work of the House has been delayed due to absenteeism of MP’s who did not show a sense of responsibility. I urge the MP’s who were not present to do their duties and to regularly attend the parliament sessions.”

He also pointed out that the MP’s have equal rights and further urged to be responsible when it comes to the laws that are awaiting the parliament to debate.

He said: “There are many MP’s who deserve to be given certificates of appreciations after they have shown a high sense of responsibility when it comes to attending the parliament sessions. They were not absent from a single session, others have not shown in the sessions while they are in Mogadishu. That is not a good thing. It is a request. We must respect the laws of the parliament.”
