The Director of Immigration and Citizenship Agency, Hon. Mustaf Sheikh Ali Dhuhulow on Tuesday has disclosed that there is a plan in place which will stop all domestic flights from Adden Adde Int’l Airport in order to reduce the current burden. He revealed that plans are underway to re-open Deyniile airport, a small one in Banadir region where all domestic flights will be transferred and planes destined for all regions in Somalia will take off and land at Deyniile airport.

The director has said that there is a huge burden when it comes to Adden Adde Int’l Airport in Mogadishu. He stated that they are exerting maximum effort in order to operate Deyniile airport where it will handle domestic flights. He said: “I am hopeful that once Adden Adde Int’l Airport has become busy and there are many flights. The gov’t officials will acknowledge that Deyniile airport will ease the burden from Adden Adde Int’l Airport.”

He stated that domestic flights will be shifted to Deyniile airport in order to reduce the current load. The director of Immigration and Citizenship Agency made the remarks during a ceremony where the agency has opened a new office in the Deyniile district. He stated that Deyniile and other districts that lie in the outskirts need that vital gov’t services must be decentralized.

He said: “Deyniile is among the districts that lie in the vicinity which means these are the districts that services to be decentralized as they lie 10 km from the capital.”

However, the statement comes at a time when the Somali Federal Gov’t is planning to set up a new airport in Mogadishu where all domestic and int’l flights will be available.

He said: “The strategic plan of the gov’t led by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and PM Hamze is that once the president was elected, he ordered to come up with a new plan to establish a new airport in Mogadishu.
