Hiiraan regional governor, Hon. Muse Salad Weheliye held meetings with the officers of the Somali National Army (SNA) hours after he arrived in Mahaas on Saturday.
The regional governor spoke with the officers of the Somali Military Command particularly those of the 21st and 27th Division of the Somali National Army (SNA). He spoke with them about the operations against Al-Shabab that are underway in the province.
The meeting focused on the expedition of the operations and preventing Al-Shabab to expand their presence in areas in Hiiraan province and to dislodge them from Moqokori district. Reports says that the military officers told the governor Weheliye that the troops must consolidate its defense positions in the outskirts of Mahaas in the first place.
They told him that the plan to recapture Moqokori district which is next to Mahaas is being finalized. They also informed him that there is no fear from Al-Shabab in which they will take control of Mahaas district. There are reports that say Al-Shabab are conducting movement of troops in the oustkirts of Moqokori district and are intending to regain control of Mahaas.
The Somali Federal Gov’t has been working that Hirshabelle and Gamlmudug states must cooperate in the fight against Al-Shabab in the province in order to eliminate their desire which is to get a route that they can travel back and forth in the regional states in central provinces in Somalia. Al-Shabab have caused a new tension in the East of Hiiraan province days after they gained control of Moqokori district.
