China, Somalia discuss ways to cooperate in the fight against illegal fishing

Somalia’s Minister of Fishery and blue economy, Ahmed Hassan Adan, flanked by the Director General of the ministry, Abdi Diirshe on Thursday held a high level meeting with a delegation headed by Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, Wang Yu.

The meeting was held at the ministry of fishery building in Mogadishu. During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to enhance the historic ties between China and Somalia.

The two sides reached a common understanding in regard to the importance of broadening the economic cooperation in particular the fishery and the blue economy.

First of all, the minister lauded the bilateral cooperation in the area of fish trade and the blue economy between the two countries.

He reiterated that the ministry is committed to create opportunities and finding foreign markets for the fish in Somalia.

On his side, the Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Wang Yu said that the Chinese gov’t is ready to allow the fish in Somalia to be sold in Chinese markets. The two sides also agreed on to work together in the fight against illegal fishing.

They also agreed upon to provide support to the development of legal fish trade and to enhance the cooperation in the area of blue economy between the two countries.
