Somaliland cabinet held its weekly meeting on Thursday under the chairmanship of President Musa Bihi Abdi.
At the start of the meeting, the cabinet called on the House of Elders to set the same date for the upcoming parliament and local council elections which the National Electoral Commission announced a couple of days ago.
NEC announced that on 31st of May, 2021, to hold parliament and local council elections in the country.
On the other hand, the cabinet called on three political national parties to implement laws pertaining to the elections and in particular the criteria set for selecting the candidates.
The cabinet also said that candidates vying for the parliament and local council elections must submit a written statement affirming that they will honor election laws.
The Electoral Commission urged to oversee that the candidates will abide by the election laws.
The ministers called on the media houses to educate the public on electoral laws.
Security agencies were also informed to bolster security in the runner up to the preparations of the election.
Ministerial committee also urged to oversee if the above directives are implemented and further called on them to overcome constraints encountered during the execution.
