Mogadishu– Somalia’s security forces escalated operations against al-shabab militants in Southern Somalia. The Somali National Army (SNA), backed by local militia fighters conducted joint operations in Ba’adka Farah Adan and Aliyale which are under Harardhere district in Mudug region. The operation was aimed at preventing al-shabab militants who were planning to coordinate attacks from the area. The officers who were leading al-shabab counter operations told local media that the army destroyed al-shabab bases. Somali troops backed by the local fighters conducted the operations for the past year. The army restarted the operations which is aimed at flushing out al-shabab from its strongholds in South Somalia.
