The Deputy Governor of the Bank of Somaliland, Mr. Hamse Abdirashid Khaire, along with Director General Mr. Yasin Jama Ahmed and UNDP official Mr. Said Yusuf Farah, officially closed a three-day intensive training workshop on the Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model at the Bank of Somaliland headquarters. The training brought together senior officers from the Bank of Somaliland and key government ministries, including Finance, National Planning, Trade and Tourism, Investment Development, Minerals and Water, Livestock, Agriculture Development, Employment, and Social Affairs. Participants received specialized instruction on the CGE model, an advanced economic tool designed to simulate the interactions between different sectors of the economy and support evidence-based policymaking. Officials emphasized that adopting the CGE framework will enable the Government of Somaliland to analyze the impacts of policy changes, resource allocation, and external shocks using reliable, official data, leading to more informed and effective economic decisions. The workshop forms part of ongoing collaboration between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Somaliland government to strengthen national economic modeling capacity. The trainers themselves completed advanced CGE training in Kenya as part of UNDP’s regional capacity-building initiative. The Bank of Somaliland described the program as a significant step towards building a more robust, data-driven economic management system for the country.
