MOGADISHU– Yesterday, Somalia’s Army Chief, General Mohamed Mohamud, inspected units of the Somali National Army (SNA) stationed in the frontlines of Middle Shabelle province. The Military Command released a statement about the inspection, but did not specify the exact location visited by the Army Chief, who was airlifted by helicopter. The statement praised the brave soldiers who risked their lives in defense of the nation and the elimination of enemies, acknowledging them as the pillars of security and stability in the country. Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohmud also urged the soldiers to intensify their operations in order to strengthen security and promote peace for the Somali people. The statement noted that the Army Chief received briefings from officers leading the units stationed in the frontlines, who updated him on the overall security situation and the progress made in operations against the enemy. The Army Chief encouraged the soldiers to continue their efforts in defense of the nation and expressed hope for their victory and the safety of all members of the Somali National Army (SNA) stationed in the frontlines. Pictures posted on the official website of the SNA showed the Army Chief sharing a fast-breaking meal (Iftar) with the soldiers and leading the Maghrib prayers. This is the first inspection conducted by the Army Chief in the frontlines of Middle Shabelle province since assuming the top Military Command. General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamoud was appointed to this position on January 29, 2026 and officially took over on February 4, 2026, succeeding his predecessor, General Odawaa Yusuf Raage
