On Sunday, Mr. Ali Saed Fiqi, the Speaker of the Southwest State Parliament, strongly criticized the misuse of weapons that were originally intended for national defense but are now being used for internal conflicts. He pointed out that these weapons, mainly light weapons, were donated by the Egyptian government to Somalia in order to strengthen national security and protect the country from its real enemies. However, he expressed concern that these weapons have been given to armed militiamen in Buurhakaba district and are being used against the people of Southwest State. This goes against the original purpose of the donation. Mr. Fiqi stated, “The weapons that were meant to defend our nation are now being used in the wrong way. This only adds to tensions, divisions, and puts innocent people in danger.” He called on government agencies and all involved parties to put an end to the illegal use of these weapons and return them to the rightful hands for the defense of the nation.
