In a decisive step toward greater transparency and accountability, Somaliland’s Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Hon. Abdilaahi Hassan Aden, today officially opened a high-level workshop dedicated to strengthening fiduciary oversight and intensifying the fight against corruption in World Bank-funded development projects.

The intensive training programme aims to fortify good governance systems, sharpen financial accountability mechanisms, and protect public resources by tightening supervision of internationally financed initiatives across the country.

Senior government figures attended the opening ceremony, including the Director General of the Ministry of Finance, the Auditor General of the Republic, the Chairman of the Good Governance Commission, ten Director Generals from various ministries and agencies, World Bank project coordinators, and other key stakeholders.

Throughout the workshop, participants will receive in-depth training on advanced financial monitoring techniques, early detection of corruption vulnerabilities, and the practical implementation of robust preventive controls to minimise administrative and financial irregularities.

The programme is structured in two phases: the first segment is underway in Hargeisa, while the second and more advanced phase is scheduled to take place in Nairobi, enabling participants to benefit from global best practices and international peer exchange.

Officials described the initiative as a landmark effort to build public trust, ensure donor funds deliver maximum impact, and demonstrate Somaliland’s unwavering commitment to clean and effective public financial management.
