The security forces in Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital, carried out a planned security operation in the city and on the outskirts of the Deyniile district. They successfully intercepted and seized a three-wheeled cargo motorbike loaded with heavy weapons, which the militant group Al-Shabab was planning to use to harm the local population. The operation took place at around 11:30 pm and was based on crucial intelligence received from local residents. This intelligence report allowed the security forces to conduct surveillance on the movement of Al-Shabab and ultimately foiled their plans. According to Somali military radio, the security forces seized a three-wheeled cargo motorbike carrying at least five mortars, which were tactfully concealed inside sacks of vegetables in an attempt to sneak into Mogadishu. This is just one of many attempts by Al-Shabab to disrupt the security in the capital. The driver of the motorbike attempted to detonate the weapons, but was apprehended by the security forces before any harm could be done. Photos taken at the scene show the seized mortars and the motorbike. The security agencies expressed their gratitude to the local population for their role in maintaining security and urged them to continue cooperating with the security forces to eradicate the threat posed by Al-Shabab.
