On Tuesday, Somalia’s Health Minister, Dr. Ali Haji Adan, and Deputy Health Minister of the Russian Government, H.E Oleg Salagay, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at strengthening health cooperation between the two countries. The agreement focuses on developing healthcare systems, enhancing existing services, and training health staff to upgrade their knowledge and skills. It also includes sharing expertise and health research, preventing and treating contagious and non-contagious diseases, and organizing medicine and health equipment. Other points in the agreement address improving maternal and newborn care, implementing digital health services, nuclear medicine, and promoting medical tourism. This new cooperation is expected to significantly improve the quality of health services in Somalia and strengthen health institutions. After signing the MOU, the ministers of both countries held a special meeting and emphasized the importance of strengthening their longstanding cooperation in the health sector. They also expressed their commitment to implementing the MOU in order to achieve tangible outcomes that serve the interests of both governments.
