Puntland President Saed Abdilahi Deni, leader of the semi-autonomous region in Somalia, has stated that Somalia is currently facing a political crisis that poses a serious threat to the country’s statehood and has created a lack of confidence in the federal system. He believes that this division is a result of poor policies from the Somali Federal Government, which have undermined the agreed-upon system. Deni emphasized that unity cannot be achieved through disparaging, threatening, or insulting others, and that the Somali people will always be one nation, regardless of their location. Deni also expressed concern about the recent amendment of the Somali constitution, which he believes is jeopardizing the unity of the country. He stated that anyone who violates the constitution is not working towards true national unity. He called for discussions based on mutual respect and a willingness to find common ground on contentious issues. Deni announced that Puntland has withdrawn from the current federal system due to the violation of the constitution, in which Puntland played a significant role. He clarified that this decision does not mean rejecting the Somali people or their unity, but rather opposing an administration that seeks to divide the country. Deni stressed that Puntland is ready to participate in a National Consultative Conference to find a national resolution and will make its position clear. However, if such a conference does not take place, Puntland will establish its own constitution and laws. He emphasized that all actions taken by Puntland will be legally binding and based on reason rather than emotions or zeal. The ultimate goal is to protect the rights and integrity of Puntland.
