The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) announced on Sunday that it had conducted a successful security operation against Al-Shabab militants. The operation resulted in the death of 13 Al-Shabab members, including senior leaders, after a raid in the Mahaa Saciid settlement in the Middle Shabelle province. According to a press release issued by NISA, the operation specifically targeted Al-Shabab leaders who were holding a high-level meeting. It is believed that the leaders were planning terrorist attacks and pressuring local residents to support them by force. The statement from NISA described these leaders as “bloodsuckers” who were involved in organizing terrorist attacks and suppressing locals. They have now been successfully eliminated. NISA has identified the Al-Shabab leaders killed in the operation as Moalim Aseyr, Moalim Mohamud Ahmed Hassan, Sheikh Ali Guuraale, Abdirahman Sheikh Ali Dhegey, and Moalim Addey. The agency also revealed that these leaders were responsible for committing acts of insecurity in the Middle Shabelle, Galguduud, and Baay provinces. NISA has confirmed that 8 Al-Shabab members, including three senior leaders, sustained serious injuries during the operation. Since July of last year, the Somali National Army (SNA), along with AUSSOM troops and international allies, have increased military operations against Al-Shabab.
