The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has successfully eliminated a senior Al-Shabab leader named Ahmed Dhubad Hidig, also known as Sheikh Adan Dheere within Al-Shabab circles. He was the head of finance for the group in the Banadir region. On January 27, 2026, a planned and meticulously executed security operation took place in the Daniga Baalow settlement in Lower Shabelle province, resulting in his death. The operation was carried out by specially trained soldiers known as Gaashaan, who entered the house where he was hiding. Despite engaging in gunfire with the security forces, he was ultimately shot and killed as he resisted peaceful surrender and exchanged gunfire with the soldiers attempting to capture him. Hidig had been a member of Al-Shabab since 2008 and was involved in looting assets and extorting money from residents. He held positions as the head of extortion in Mudug, Galguduud, Hiiraan, and Lower Shabelle provinces. NISA had been pursuing him for a long time, and they were finally successful in eliminating him.
