The Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), in collaboration with international partners, conducted a planned security operation, resulting in heavy casualties for the Al-Shabab group. The group was attempting to prepare for assaults in the Hiiraan and Lower Shabelle provinces. NISA announced that it had eliminated at least 40 Al-Shabab members. The first operation took place in Waabweyn and Isgoyska Madaxyo Weyn in the Mahaas district of the Hiiraan region. It targeted Al-Shabab fighters who were planning to carry out terror attacks in the district. NISA reported that it had killed at least 17 Al-Shabab fighters and destroyed their hideouts. In another successful operation, NISA, in collaboration with international partners, targeted the Huad area of Buulo-naagey settlement in the Lower Shabelle province, eliminating 23 Al-Shabab members who were mobilized to launch raids against the Somali National Army (SNA) military camps and disrupt travel and security in the province. This attack degraded the group’s attempts to carry out terror attacks and disrupted their intentions to use Buulo-naagey settlement as a base for disrupting security. NISA has intensified its efforts to eliminate terrorists and strengthen the security and stability of the country.
