On Sunday, lawmakers from the Somali Federal Parliament arrived in Baidoa, endorsing the decision made by the President of Southwest State. They stated that this decision is crucial in protecting the interests of both the country and the region. During a press conference held in Baidoa, the lawmakers expressed their support for the decision. One of the lawmakers, Mr. Adam Saransoor, who was among those who arrived in Baidoa, criticized the policies of the Somali Federal Government, stating that they are endangering the unity of the country. He cited strained relationships between the Federal Government and Jubaland and Puntland as examples. He also mentioned that there are only 53 days left in President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s term and that Southwest State will not tolerate interference in its internal affairs. He called on opposition groups, such as the Somali Future Council, to support the stance taken by the Southwest State President. Another lawmaker, Mr. Mohamed Mursal Abdirahman, who is currently in Baidoa, stated that the resolution of political tensions in Southwest State must come from within the region and not from Mogadishu. He urged President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and the communities living in Southwest State to refrain from bringing in outside individuals who could potentially harm the region’s political process. He warned that if this continues, there will be a famine in Baidoa, and you will be held responsible. Lastly, lawmaker Mr. Hassan Abdinour, who was also part of the delegation that arrived in Baidoa, emphasized that the decisions made are in the best interest of the people and the country. He pledged their support for the leadership of President Abdiasis Laftagaren and warned against the use of arms in the name of Somalia to destroy Southwest State.
