On Tuesday, ISIS fighters launched a mortar attack on Sheebaab village, located in the Qandala district of the Bari region in the Al-Miskaad Mountains. Sheebaab was one of the areas successfully liberated from ISIS control in February of last year, and was previously a base for ISIS leaders in Somalia. According to reports, one of the mortars hit an antenna owned by Gollis Telecommunication Company, resulting in temporary disruption of communication services. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported from the attack. This is the first time that ISIS has used mortars since Puntland announced the completion of their operations in the Al-Miskaad Mountains. Puntland has stated that ISIS’s operational capabilities have been significantly weakened. However, they also mentioned that there are still small groups of ISIS fighters on the run and hiding in Togga Baallade.
